8 performances in the canyon of Lykavyttos
The whole morning we were full of joy [… ] First, stones leaves and flowers shone then the sun a huge sun all thorns and so high in the sky. George Seferis, Interlude of Joy
Four women roam the canyon of Lykavyttos seeking an experience of mental and physical euphoria. They attempt ecstatic conversations with nature, their main guide being the poetry of George Seferis and Walt Whitman.
Joy Break is a performance whose pivotal focus is the relationship between the modern resident of high-pressure urban centers with the natural environment, where physical theater meets poetry.
The performance raises key questions and gives ample space to the viewers to participate in the search for their own answers, being free to move along with the actors, to compose their own images, their own questions and their own meanings.
The smallest sprout shows there is really no death, And if ever there was it led forward life […] Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
Joy Break is part of The canyon project and a natural continuation of a series of collaborations and research projects with Anna Tzakou, Rosa Prodromou, Neli Poulopoulou, Adriana Alexiou, and the participants of the workshop Open Nature, all of whom inspired and contributed to the expressive means of show.
